Professional Experience

Lisa Stevens is a member whose practice focuses on corporate bankruptcy, creditor rights, commercial litigation and insurance recovery. She has significant experience working with businesses in financial distress and has represented corporate debtors, lenders, secured creditors, and unsecured creditors in all aspects of litigation, deal making and dispute resolution.

Prior to joining Yumkas, Vidmar, Sweeney & Mulrenin, LLC, Ms. Stevens represented corporate policyholders in insurance coverage disputes in state and federal courts throughout the country and abroad in international arbitration. She has been involved in all aspects of litigation and has successfully recovered millions of dollars for her clients. In addition to her insurance coverage work, Ms. Stevens has litigated complex commercial contract disputes and business-related torts.

Representative Cases

In re The Hagerstown Block Company and Hagerstown Concrete Products, Inc. - Counsel to debtors in confirmed joint Chapter 11 plan of reorganization for manufacturing company and related real estate company.

In re Kent Manor Inn, LLC - Debtor's counsel in successful sale of restaurant, inn and hospitality venue.

In re Chesapeake Row Homes, LLC and related entities - Debtor's counsel for nine real estate ventures; negotiated successful settlement that resulted in a dismissal of Chapter 11 proceedings.

In re Professional Arts Associates, Inc. - Debtor's counsel for mixed-use office and commercial building resulting in profitable sale.

In re Barrack's Row ENT Group, LLC, et al - Debtor's counsel for ten restaurant entities in Washington D.C. Chapter 11 reorganization.

In re Dorsey Builders, Inc.-Debtor's counsel for real estate developer resulting in confirmed Chapter 11 plan of reorganization.

In re Recreational Industries, Inc., t/a WISP Resort - Counsel to debtors in sale of regional ski resort, golf course and real estate project. Finalist in M&A Advisor 2013 Real Estate Deal of the Year.

In re 207 Redwood LLC - Counsel to debtor in sale of hotel project.

Leadership

Ms. Stevens is the Co-Chair of the Greater Maryland Network of the International Women's Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation. Prior to this position, she served as the Co-Chair for the Events Committee and as an At-Large Director on the Board. She is actively involved in the Bankruptcy Bar Association of Maryland ("MBBA") and serves as the Chapter Events Assistant Chair and member of the Board of Directors. Ms. Stevens has been involved in redesigning the MBBA's website and has been a presenter for the MBBA's monthly meetings and annual Spring Break events. In addition, she is the Co-Chair of the Community Service Committee and Board Member of the Anne Arundel Bar Association ("AABA"). She has served on the planning committee for various AABA Bar Weekends and other events.

In 2018, Ms. Stevens was recognized as a Leading Lawyer in Bankruptcy in Anne Arundel County by What's Up Magazine.

Ms. Stevens served as a law clerk for The Honorable James P. Salmon of the Maryland Court of Special Appeals from 2004 to 2005. In 2003, she was a Rose Zetzer Fellow at the National Women's Law Center and a summer associate at Dickstein Shapiro, LLC. During law school, Ms. Stevens was a research assistant for the Center for Health and Homeland Security and interned with The Honorable Andre M. Davis of the United States District Court for the District of Maryland.

Ms. Stevens received her J.D., with honors, from The University of Maryland School of Law, where she served as the Notes and Comments Editor of The Maryland Law Review. In addition, Ms. Stevens was awarded The Joseph Bernstein Prize for the most significant piece of legal writing submitted for publication in The Maryland Law Review during 2003 to 2004. She received her B.S., cum laude, in microbiology, with distinction, from The Ohio State University, where she was awarded the Presidential Leadership Citation Outstanding Senior Award,and was inducted into the SPHINX Senior Honorary.
